Here is a link to the article in the Oregonian about East Creek. http://www.oregonlive.com/art/index.ssf/2011/03/east_creek_anagama_kiln_near_w.html
It was kinda cool to see this on the front page of the ?art section? of the newspaper on Monday.
My projects--
Platter--trimming tomorrow
Plate--trimming tomorrow
Flaring cups--throwing over break
Pitcher--throwing over break
Teabowl---near future they are going to be a different style though like this picture. In Japan this teabowl is meant for summer time to cool the tea faster then a concave teabowl.

so i threw a couple plates this week and here is a platter/plate i made today... I'm probably going to use them for my breadth. It was also cool to throw with larger amounts of clay because i haven't thrown anything big well in a long time especially since there is only so big a teabowl or a mug can get before it just looks stupid

Last week I made a set of teabowls and started experimenting with cups. I'm thinking about tall cups with subtle alterations in shape around the middle and then staining a simple design on them and woodfiring them.

Cool artist: Jim Kraft. He makes a lot of cool basket things. He is being featured in a gallery downtown anyway I thought his stuff was really cool. Here's a link to some more of his stuff http://www.buttersgallery.com/Artist-Detail.cfm?ArtistsID=434

Congrats to all people who won stuff for their pieces!! Time to get down to business on my concentration I think I am going to remake a couple projects from earlier. Also I want to have a couple projects ready for wood fire (Whitney mentioned something about one at the end of the month?). I want to focus on small simple detail in my next couple projects to make stuff unique. I threw some mug bodies yesterday but forgot to take pictures and forgot to bring them home to attach handles and trim so hopefully they won't be too dry on Monday. Also for my breadth I am going to make a teapot this month... something simple. Here's one by John Leach that I like the idea of

Projects for this month CHECK! Now to figure out what to do next... I've really enjoyed making mugs because there is so much to consider with the functionality and comfort of the mug being essential. I love the feel of my handles they are just comfortable for me to hold. For my next project I am going to try a little more organic approach to the mug body itself. some likable mugs:

Mugs!
Well this week I threw some more of the mugs that I started making over winter break. Today I pulled their handles. I'm really quite happy with this project because I'm really likin my handles nowadays. I also really like mugs now. Before, truthfully I hated mugs because I hated making handles because they always turned out gross looking but with pulling the handles off the body of the mug they are much easier to make them fit the pot well and they just look a lot nicer. Overall I'm really happy with this project and I'm gonna make some more mugs for the next one!

winter break business
First off my concentration project I made over the break was some mugs. I really hate making handles because mine always turn out like crap so luckily my brother is home and I asked him for some help on handles and he taught me how to pull them off the pot which is so much easier! Gah why didn't I figure this out before. Anyway I also learned throwing pots in a shed outdoors with a measly little space heater that ran out of propane in below freezing temperatures is miserable. It took awhile before I finally got feeling back in my fingers. Anyway here is one of them:
Also my brother and I did a reduction gas firing this week.We had trouble getting it to temperature according to the probe but when we opened it up the cone 10 was down so we reached our goal temperature. Problem was the kiln heated really unevenly(neither of us are sure exactly why). the top shelf where the cones were reached temperature and most of the stuff came out allright, most with noticeable signs of reduction. Bottom shelf=glazes hardly melted at all. The pieces that didn't turn out can always be refired.
